Working out while travelling doesn’t have to be a chore. There are lots of ways to integrate fitness into your full travel experience. On my recent trip to Houston (read the recaps here), I really found a way to make sure I got my workouts in all while having new fun experiences. I have a couple tips for making sure you get your workout in while on the go without having to resort to the hotel gym. Though if you’re in a pinch, fitness blender is a great option to get a hotel room workout in.
Tips For Working Out While Travelling
Research Your Options Beforehand
I looked around at the area we were staying and found out what the options were for fitness studios. I wanted to do something unique I hadn’t tried before. I have been wanting to try Pure Barre forever. As a former dancer it always peaked my interest and we don’t have any studios where I live. I found out from my research that Pure Barre offers newbies their first week free – bonus!
I love love loved Pure Barre, it made muscles I didn’t know I had shake in the best way possible. I ended up taking two classes while I was in Texas. You do not have to be a ballerina to take this class, I thought more coordination would be required but that really wasn’t the case. The tiny micro movements that seem easy, made me work! If you have the opportunity to check out this class I highly recommend it. I was so glad I had done my research and figured out this was an option for me in Texas.
Talk To The Locals
One of my friends who lives in Houston recommend I checkout Revolution. Revolution is a Texas-based boutique spin and yoga studio. They offer students unlimited classes for two weeks for $35, which was perfect for me as I was in Houston for two weeks! I had never taken a spin class like this in my life. The music was loud and the lights were off, it was super intense and I loved it! The yoga classes were good, very similar to what I am used to at my home studio but I was glad I was able to get some yoga in while travelling. It’s always good to experience a new teacher! I was so glad my friend had told me about this place, I ended up taking 4 classes here over the two weeks.
Get Outside
I am a runner, one of my favourite ways to explore a new place is to run around it! I use Strava to find out where the locals run. I ran in some beautiful places in Houston and Sugarland. My favourites were Lost Creek Park in Sugarland and Memorial Park in Houston. If you aren’t into running looking for biking and hiking trails is also a great way to explore a new city!
I managed to squeeze in tons of workouts on this trip which I was so happy about. Vacations are all about indulging, however, I always feel so much better about indulging after a great workout. I don’t set massive workout plans or expectations of myself while travelling, if I get a workout in most days I am happy. I use working out while travelling as an opportunity to try new things and see new places. It hardly feels like working out then because you are so caught up in experiencing something new.

Hi Heidi! So awesome to ‘meet’ a fellow Newfoundlander 🙂 Small world! I’ve never been to Texas, but would love to go one day! It’s definitely a good thing to exercise while travelling; I love to eat, but particularly when we go on trips (love trying out new restaurants), so definitely have to balance everything out with a little bit of exercise 😉 Have an awesome weekend!!
Hi Heidi! So nice to ‘meet’ a fellow Newfoundlander! Small world! I have never been to Texas, but would love to visit one day. I love to exercise to some degree while travelling too. Mainly because I love to check out lots and lots of restaurants when visiting some place new; I want to try it all and there’s only so much a girl can eat, ya know 😉 ? I have to balance it all out, lol 😀 Have an awesome weekend!
