Planning a trip to Hawaii? Check out all my Hawaii posts and guides including a two week itinerary for Oahu, Maui and The Big Island!
Maui was our favourite island of the three we visited. It had the best beaches, stunning landscape and was so laid back and relaxing. We’d return to Maui in a heart beat and hope to go back there soon. I left a little piece of my heart on Maui.
We spent four nights on Maui and it did not feel like enough. The one thing we didn’t do that we had planned on was driving to Haleakala to see a sunrise or sunset. We had thought about doing it on our last day but after a full day driving the road to Hana and a full day snorkelling the Molokini Crater we were wiped. There are only so many things you can do on vacation and you don’t want to be exhausted when it’s over. Just a side note if you are planning to visit Haleakala at sunrise you do need to make a reservation.
Where We Stayed
We stayed at the Royal Kahana Maui by Outrigger which we booked through Costco Travel. We had a good experience with the booking process in Maui and our package included a rental car. However, on The Big Island we had a few issues when we were double charged for the rental car that forced me to call multiple times to rectify the problem and get our money back. I am sad to say my experience with the folks at Costco Travel in this situation were not great.
The hotel itself was just okay, a little dated but in a great location right on the beach and the room had everything we needed. It had a full size kitchen which we made use of by cooking breakfast each day which we enjoyed on the lanai. The room was clean and met our needs, it just wasn’t the greatest place we’ve ever stayed.
Things To Do Maui
Snorkel Molokini Crater
You can read all about our experience snorkelling here, it was amazing.
Drive the Road to Hana
This is a must do in Maui, we had a blast driving the Road to Hana! We swam in a waterfall and it was incredible. You can read all about our experience here.
Spend Some Time At Lahaina Harbour
We were on Maui for the fourth of July. We went for dinner and drinks in the Lahaina Harbour area, there were tons of bars and shops that are all very walkable. I highly recommend spending some time wandering around here.
Spend Time At The Beach
Maui is known for it’s gorgeous beaches! The beach in the picture below was right next to our hotel and it was pretty much empty. Side note, that tube was the best $10 I spent on the entire trip.
Places To Eat
We spent a lot of time in Maui eating at our hotel. We barbecued one night and ate our breakfast at the hotel everyday. However, there are two places that we ate at that we enjoyed! Also, as a side note if you like garlic try these chips and if you are local and visit Hawaii bring me back a bag, I am drooling just thinking about them.
The Beach House Bar and Grill
This was right next to our hotel. We went here twice for happy hour snacks and drinks. It was pub grub but it was all really good and the mai tais were on point!
Captain Jack’s
We ate here on the fourth of July because it was the only place we could get a table. But it ended it up being really good, I really enjoyed the fish tacos!
Maui has my heart and I can’t wait to go back some day and visit.
