We had a lot of fun on our recent trip to Texas (read the recaps here). There are tons of things to do, see and eat in the Houston Area. We spent a day on Galveston Island, which I would highly recommend doing if you are in the area. We also tried tons of amazing restaurants and bars, Houston is a foodie’s paradise. Today, I plan to recap some of the fun things we did in the Houston Area.
Things To Do In Houston Texas
The Houston Zoo
We spent the full day at the Houston Zoo, as a new photographer this was the perfect opportunity for picture taking. We spent the day leisurely wandering around and photographing the animals. There was a ton to see here, this is a massive Zoo. Both of us really enjoyed our day here.
Watch A Houston Astros Game
We bought last minute tickets on StubHub and ended up with awesome seats! I love watching live sports, it’s way more exciting then watching on TV. The Astros game sure delivered, we had so much fun. Minute Maid park is a brand new stadium with tons of food options. There was even a Shake Shack but the line was massive so we didn’t bother to wait. I highly recommend checking out an Astros game even if you aren’t into sports it is fun to watch live games!
Memorial Park
I spent a couple hours one morning checking out Memorial Park when I went for a run. This is a massive park with tons of amenities. I enjoyed the trails and did a 5K loop of the park. You could spend the day here especially if you have kids.
Houston Museum Of Natural Science
We managed to squeeze in an afternoon at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We got our tickets on Groupon and paid nearly half the price. The Groupon gave the option to purchase one special exhibit along with the regular fee and we chose the Planetarium. We didn’t really know what to expect from the Planetarium as neither of us had been to one before but it sounded cool.
Both myself and Bruce were mind blown. We attended a 30 minute show about dark space in what was a dome shaped room. The seats leaned backwards and it was just like you were travelling through the sky. No pictures were allowed inside the room but it was an amazing experience.
We managed to get through most of the museum in an afternoon, we were a bit rushed but it was doable. Our favourite section other then the planetarium was of course the dinosaurs. Because…dinosaurs.
