This is a post reviewing the top things to do in Bonavista & Trinity. I am from and live in Newfoundland, yet I have barely seen most of this beautiful province I live in. Last summer my husband and I had to go to central Newfoundland so we made a weekend out of it and decided to stop halfway and visit the towns of Bonavista and Trinity. I had been to Bonavista and Trinity as a child but hadn’t been back since, so it was interesting to see these places as an adult.
Where To Stay
We stayed at Annie’s Landing in Bonavista, a lovely property that has two apartments. They are very clean and cozy with a full kitchen area, living room and balcony. We stayed in the smaller one bedroom apartment. When we arrived there was fresh bread and homemade jam waiting for us! This was such a sweet touch.
Bonavista: Where To Eat
We chose to stay in Bonavista specifically because we wanted to eat at The Bonavista Social Club. Though, I should mention the restaurant is in Upper Amherst Cove about 20 minutes from Bonavista. We had been reading for months about the amazing food they serve and it did not disappoint! They grow everything there themselves for their restaurant, it is incredible. The view was amazing and the food to die for. We started with cocktails and could not pass up the spiked rhubarb cocktail, so good! For my meal I had a wood fire pizza and Bruce had the moose burger, we shared the brownie for dessert.

The next day we had breakfast at Walkham’s Gate Pub & Cafe which is a little hole in the wall spot. However, in my opinion those places usually have the best breakfasts! We had bacon and eggs and it was served hot and fast.
Bonavista: Things To Do & See
The rest of the day we drove around Bonavista and checked out the local attractions. We visited the lighthouse and walked around there and enjoyed the views.
We also visited Dungeon Provincial Park which features a collapsed sea cave with a natural archway carved by the sea, very cool to see and talk a selfie with.
We then left the Bonavista area and headed to Trinity. Bruce and I wandered around there and stopped into the local chocolate shop Aunt Sarah’s Chocolate and got some treats. At this point we were a bit hungry so we grabbed a bite to eat at the local marina restaurant which was just okay. We shared a fish and chips which was good but not the best I have ever had.
Trinity
Gander & Terra Nova
After that we had to head to Gander which is in central Newfoundland. We didn’t spend much time there so there’s not much to say. I will recommend the restaurant Bistro on Roe in Gander. We had an incredible meal there, however, my iPhone destroyed all the pictures I took there unfortunately. Also, we went to the Gander Bread Box for breakfast which has an excellent touton breakfast sandwich. And well, if you haven’t had a touton, you haven’t truly lived.
On the drive home the following day we stopped at Sandy Pond in Terra Nova National Park. I had been there as a university student probably 12 years ago and it was just as lovely now as it was then.
Have you been to Newfoundland? Where did you visit?
If you are reading this post and planning a trip to NL I’d love to hear from you!
Well I am sold on the food alone! And the accommodation looked so nice
It was soooo good! Highly recommend a visit for sure!
Adding this to my bucket list! Looks absolutely AMAZING!

It’s so gorgeous there! Definitely a must see. Newfoundland is gorgeous, I may be biased!! 🙂
For visitors coming to Bonavista Social Club, it is actually in Upper Amherst Cove on Bonavista Bay, not Elliston on Trinity Bay.
Thanks for the clarification! I will correct.
