Aloha! I am headed to Hawaii tomorrow! So I have a couple of guest bloggers scheduled for next week who kindly offered to step in for me as I travel. I will be back in a couple weeks with lots of new posts. In the meantime feel free to follow my travels on Instagram and Facebook.
Last August myself and Bruce spent a weekend in Whistler, British Columbia, followed by 4 days in Vancouver and finally, we left on a 7 day Alaskan cruise. I plan to recap the ports of call as well as the overall cruise experience. We sailed on the Celebrity Millennium ship, this was our fourth cruise. Our first with Celebrity and our first in Alaska.
Ketchikan Alaska Cruise Port
Our first port of call was the Ketchikan Alaska cruise port. A small town on the inside passage of Alaska. Our cruise was late August and we lucked out with the weather. Several residents mentioned that they had been having terrible weather all summer however when we were there is was 20 degrees celsius (70 degrees farenheit).
Lumberjack Show
We purchased tickets through the cruise line for the lumber jack show. There were several shows that day so you could choose various times. The show is about an hour and features 4 lumber jacks completing various competitions from log splitting to axe throwing and log climbing. They entertain you the entire show with theatrics. The tickets cost I think around $20 so for the price I think it’s a good value and a great way to start your day in Ketchikan.
After the show we wandered around town checking out the local shops and surrounding area. We walked to a fish and chips place on the waterfront that also advertised dungress crab. We had the fish and chips, it was good but I cannot remember the name of the restaurant for the life of me.
After that we wandered back down the waterfront, snapping pictures as we went. Ketchikan is a very walkable town and very piceresque. It was a very leisurly and relaxing start to our cruise of Alaska’s inside passage. Next stop – Icy Strait Point also known as the town of Hoonah.
