In this post I outline three of my favourite small business and entrepreneurism podcasts that help me with small business ideas and inspiration. I love listening to podcasts on my commute to and from work as well as when I am doing mindless chores around the house like folding laundry. I look at it as a great opportunity to utilize my time to learn something new. A lot of what I listen to is related to owning a small business and developing entrepreneurial skills. I am always looking to learn new skills that will help grow my small business, B & H Designs.
Top 3 Small Business & Entrepreneurism Podcasts
Side Hustle School
I love love love side hustle school. Each podcast is less then ten minutes long and new episodes are released every day! The host, Chris Guillebeau, outlines a new side hustle in each episode and then explains a few key takeaways at the end. As someone who has their own side hustle I find his stories and advice to be inspirational and useful as I grow my business. I love that his message is that you don’t need to leave your full time job to pursue entrepreneurial goals. I have a full time job that I love and have no intention to leave but I love the learning and freedom having a small side hustle gives me. The types of businesses he covers are all over the spectrum. They include everything from chicken vests (yes, this is a thing) to a Air BnB for dogs. It is truly amazing to see the things that others are working on and what advice you can utilize from them.
Elise Gets Crafty
I could listen to the host of Elise Gets Crafty Elise Joy all day long. Her podcast is all about creative small business, each week she interviews a creative small business owner about their story and their business. I think what I enjoy most about this podcast is hearing the progression of the business owners and their businesses. Many of them started out working on one idea and then pivoted to another. It’s interesting to hear how their business grew, changed and evolved over the years. Many of the businesses featured on the show are now major success stories. Elise herself is a major success story, she blogged very successfully for years and now owns Get To Work Book which is a planner. As a successful creative small business owner herself she has a lot of great thoughts and insights to share. I also love her concept of choosing a guiding word for the year. Listen to episode 117 for more information on that. This year I chose the word focus as my guiding word and so far it is working well for me!
The Honest Designers Show
This is a fairly new podcast about the design industry. Design is something I am really interested in, it is a big part of my small business and this blog. I taught myself Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and to a lesser extent photoshop the year I got married and I haven’t stopped designing since. This show is really useful to me, because I didn’t go to school for graphic design but I am eager to learn everything I can about design. The honest designers show is hosted by Tom Ross the CEO of Design Cuts, a website I use to purchase commercial fonts and graphics for my work. As well as designers Ian Barnard, Lisa Glanz and Dustin Lee. While this one isn’t directly small business related I think it is important as most creative small businesses require design work. When you own a small business you wear all the hats – sales, marketing, production. In the social media age designing beautiful graphics is almost as important as your product itself.
Learning has become integral to my business growth. These podcasts along with my subscription to Skillshare (which is an entire post in itself) are how I keep on top of my game.

Great post! Elise Gets Crafty definitely sounds like a podcast I could get into. Over the past few months I’ve been listening to the Food Blogger Pro podcast. While some of the content is specific to food bloggers, most of it more broadly relates to blogging and running your own business. As a new blogger, it has been really inspiring and motivational!
Thanks for your comment! I will check out that podcast for sure!
